Secrets and Demonstrations of Power-Speaking

The word of God is not just religious instruction, but it is the operating program of all of life. To embrace it is to have life and life more abundantly. To reject it is to reap the fruits of sown disobedience, which are death and dying.

Deuteronomy, Chapter 30, Verse 19:

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

Now for today's subject.

GOD SAID that he supernaturally spoke the worlds into existence with his words.

Hebrews, Chapter 11, Verse 3:

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Concerning man's use and interaction with words, God says in Proverbs, Chapter 18, Verse 21:

Death and life are in the power of the tongue

Very real supernatural powers are equated to words. See "Made of Words" on this website.

MAN SAID "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me." Man doesn't place a fraction of the weight that God does upon words, especially the words of the Bible, which he claims are simply the words of mere men.

Now THE RECORD. If God spoke us into existence, then there should be proof of this everywhere, and there is – everywhere.

Words make everything happen. The words that we speak, direct and frame our lives. The words that we receive and speak bear specific types of fruit. 

Proverbs, Chapter 18, Verse 20:

A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

What is the fruit of your lips? This is a question to which you should give serious consideration, because earthly success and eternity turn upon its hinge. Thousands of years before man began to understand the power of words, God defined it in the Bible.

Not only has God spoken the worlds into existence by his words, but we who are born-again believers actually speak ourselves into a Christly existence. 

Romans, Chapter 10, Verse 10:

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

The initial entry into salvation requires one to believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ, and then confess with his mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord of all. Remember, the power of death and life is in the tongue. This, by the way, is our first act that emulates God and the beginning of the principle of Godliness.

Words are truly foundational to life. Consciousness, which is identified with and constructed by words (not to mention the phenomenal power of the imagination), has the evolutionary world totally flummoxed. Evolutionary anthropologist M. Cartmill had this to say on the subject of consciousness:

The phenomenon of consciousness is the source of all value in our lives. As such, it should be at the top of the scientific agenda. Yet despite its fundamental importance, consciousness is a subject that most scientists are reluctant to deal with. We know practically nothing about its mechanisms or its evolution.

The mechanisms of consciousness are an almost perfect mystery.

Dr. Henry Morris, founder of the Institute for Creation Research said:

Indeed the human brain and human consciousness, along with the ability to express human thoughts in speaking and writing, are amazing phenomena without any adequate evolutionary explanation.

Consciousness and words are intrinsically tied.

According to Dr. Howard Brody, M.D, Ph.D. in the July/August 2000 issue of Psychology Today titled "Mind Over Medicine; Diseases and disorders are hardly ever 'all in your head,' but often, the power to heal is."

You're aware of the placebo effect (See "Nocebo, Placebo & You" on this website). In clinical measurements, for instance, a proposed medical remedy is measured by taking a group of people and distributing the correct medical product to part of the group and a harmless sugar pill or placebo to the other part. Results are then tabulated. According to the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, the placebo (sugar pill) clocks in with a cure rate of 33%, which is sometimes higher than the proposed remedy that was administered. They also discovered that the effect of the fake placebo spikes measureably upward if the doctor talks the benefits of the fake placebo up. It's a matter of words. Converse to the placebo effect is an effect now known as the nocebo effect, which is the simple, measureable results of negative words. In one experiment, 13 teenagers were told that the harmless leaves that were rubbed on their arms were poison ivy. Nearly half of the group developed poison ivy rash and one developed blisters...a simple demonstration of the nocebo effect. It's all a matter of words.

Health writer Leventhal in an article on panic disorders writes this concerning cognitive-behavioral therapy:

The most effective form of talk therapy for panic disorder is known as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which aims to reacquaint the patient with her pre-panic self. During the course of treatment, which on average lasts several months, the patient learns to "talk back" to thoughts that perpetuate anxiety.

The headline in the science section of Newsweek reads "For the Obsessed, the Mind Can Fix the Brain." The Feb 26,1996 article was dealing with obsessive-compulsive disorder, known as OCD. The following excerpt reads:

The most popular treatment for OCD is Prozac or a similar drug. Some 30 percent of OCD patients do not respond well to medication, though, and if a patient stops the pills the symptoms return. But last week, Schwartz and four UCLA colleagues reported in Archives of General Psychiatry that the mind can be at least as powerful as medicine when it comes to remodeling the brain. Behavioral modification (changing the way patients act) and cognitive therapy (changing how they think) can alter the biology of their brains. PET scans of brain activity after therapy show markedly decreased activity in the "are-you-sure-the-stove-is-off?" caudate. The team had seen hints of this in a 1992 preliminary study, but last week's is the first to report persuasive evidence that, as Schwartz says, "the mind can change the brain."

Words are just like seeds. When they are planted, they bear fruit.

According to doctors Brennan and Charnetski in a 2001 article in Prevention, the authors of the book, Feeling Good is Good For You believe your immune system is directly affected by our moods and emotions:

For instance, you might be a generally carefree, cheery, and well-adjusted person, but if you happen to be angry, upset, or otherwise negative just minutes before you run your hand along a stairway railing that harbors a flu virus, you're more likely to get a cold than if you were happy-go-lucky and free of hostility when you came into contact with the bug. That's because when you're angry, upset, or moody, even for a little while, your IgA drops markedly and your T lymphocytes slow to a crawl. (T lymphocytes are important immune system cells that include helper and killer T cells.)

The medical world is discovering secrets which have been recorded in God's word for thousands of years.  According to Proverbs, Chapter 17, Verse 22:

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

We're made out of words. The words that we dote upon and the words that we speak dictate our future. Jesus said in Matthew, Chapter 12, Verse 37:

For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Remember, words bear fruit. It is carnally natural to murmur, complain, gossip, speak evil of others, harbor bitterness, hatred, etc., but this kind of word action is repugnant to God. If I participate in these negative words, I will bring a curse into my life and into the lives of others with whom I interact.

For an excellent future and eternal life, bridling words is a must. James, Chapter 1, Verse 26 says:

If any man among you seems to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

The following paragraphs will focus on a technique that I long ago coined as "Power Speaking." It is literally the supernatural technique of changing things with words. It is the real ability to speak yourself into existence on a daily basis. Using God's creative words, we can change things...we can convert circumstances.

On one occasion, a believer had come to the altar at the church for prayer. He was convicted and confessed that he didn't love everybody. Understanding the principle of "Power Speaking," I directed him and the congregation to repeat after me, "I love everybody! I love everybody! I love everybody!" It was a great victory. We converted ill feelings by speaking God's words. God requires us to love our enemies. If you have someone that you dislike, if bitterness and hatred have set in, we must repent of those thoughts and simply "Power Speak" them away. I want you to take a moment and think of those you have ill feelings toward and then follow me in this simple demonstration. Are you ready? Follow me, out loud:

I LOVE EVERYBODY!

I LOVE EVERYBODY!

I LOVE EVERYBODY! [I LOVE (Insert the person's name here to whom you may have ill feelings)!]

You are now free of the bitterness and hatred. If ill thoughts arise again, simply speak them away.

This next demonstration can absolutely transform your life into one glorious day after another and we will do it with the power of words...God's words. The principles you and I are going to speak out loud are found in the scriptures. I will list the verses so you can look them up later.

I AM A KING AND A PRIEST IN CHRIST JESUS (Revelation 1:6)

ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR MY GOOD (Romans 8:28)

I AM ABLE TO GO UP AND TAKE THE COUNTRY (Numbers 13:30)

I AM MORE THAN A CONQUEROR THROUGH CHRIST WHO LOVES ME (Romans 8:37)

GOD ALWAYS CAUSETH ME TO TRIUMPH IN CHRIST (II Corinthians 2:14)

MANY ARE THE AFFLICTIONS OF THE RIGHTEOUS: BUT THE LORD DELIVERETH HIM OUT OF THEM ALL (Psalms 34:19)

TODAY IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE (Romans 8:28, Proverbs 4:18)

HALLELUJAH!

Print this piece of paper out and start your day by speaking yourself into existence with God's life-giving words. Hosea, Chapter 14, Verse 2 reads:

Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.

We were spoken into existence with words. The words that we speak will frame our day and our eternity.

GOD SAID we are made out of words and that the power of death and life is in the tongue – in the very words that we speak.
